A cancer survivor teams up with Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson to raise money for cancer patients in Schuylkill County.

ORWIGSBURG, Pa. — Motorcycles at Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson near Orwigsburg are now decorated with pink ribbons to promote the upcoming Cancer Awareness Weekend.

Employee Donna Dukemen came up with the idea for the benefit 14 years ago. She was working in a hospital at the time and had her own battle with cancer.

But it wasn’t Dukemen’s first experience with cancer.

“My father passed away from cancer, my older brother had cancer, my younger brother had cancer. It’s in our family history, so I want to give back to the community and to these patients to make it a little less stressful,” Dukemen added. .

“I lost my mother to esophageal cancer about six years ago. We all know a survivor or a loved one we’ve lost, and I think part of our fundraising efforts and charity is about reaching out to them and touching them in different ways,” said Geoff Bogotuik, chief executive of Schaeffer.

Throughout Friday and Saturday, Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson will raise funds through raffles, food vendors and luminaries in memory of those who have lost their lives to cancer.

Having this every year has allowed them to raise over $45,000 to help the Lehigh Valley – Schuylkill Cancer Program.

“We were able to fund their gentle yoga class so that patients and their caregivers could go for free. And we also started donating money to patients receiving cancer treatments since the pandemic and helping them reduce the cost of gas being so expensive,” Dukemen said.

Cancer Awareness Weekend kicks off this Friday at 5 p.m. at Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson off Route 61 near Orwigsburg.

Hundreds of bikers ride in honor of Bromsgrove business owner

OVER 300 motorcyclists came together to celebrate the life of a ‘generous’ Bromsgrove business owner.

A convoy has been organized in memory of Chris Price, owner of Genesis Motorcycles, who died last month at the age of 58 following an illness.

Riders young and old met outside the motorcycle repair shop on Sanders Road on Thursday August 18 and outside Chris’ house in Catshill to escort him to his final resting place.

The convoy proceeded to the chapel at Redditch Abbey where a funeral service was held.

The Blue Knights Motorcycle Club organized the procession, keeping the riders together and blocking the roads to allow the passage of the large convoy.

Chris’ friend Nick Arkell rode the company owner’s Harley Davidson ‘Fat Boy’ behind the hearse.

As Chris’ coffin was carried into the chapel, more than 300 bikers revved up their engines in tribute.

The funeral was followed by a burial service at the Abbey Cemetery.

Chris’ wife Maggie thanked funeral directors Thomas Brothers for their “service and compassion”, funeral officiant Peter Billingham and friends for their support.

She added: “A big thank you to Nick who primarily organized the motorbike procession, and to the Blue Knights and associated chapters who helped protect everyone who gave of their time to honor Chris.

“We would also like to thank everyone who has contributed to the British Heart Foundation.

“Chris was a very passionate supporter of BHF and included a generous gift in his legacy.”

Punjab food service manager fired for negligence in the line of duty

Amid alleged irregularities in the process of bidding labour, trucking and transport for lifting food grains, Punjab Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Lal Chand Kataruchak , said Saturday that his department fired an officer of the rank of deputy director for gross negligence in the line of duty.

This came days after a case was registered by the Vigilance Bureau in relation to alleged irregularities in Ludhiana District under the previous Congress government.

Deputy Director Rakesh Kumar Singla’s role is under investigation over irregularities in the bidding process, sources said.

Singla is believed to be close to former food and civil supplies minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu whose role is also under the scanner, they said.

Speaking to the media here, Minister Kataruchak said Singla was fired for willful concealment of facts and gross negligence in the performance of his official duties.

Kataruchak said Singla breached the Punjab Civil Service Rules of 1970 by concealing the fact that he acquired permanent residency in Canada in 2006.

The officer was indicted in 2017 and the charges were proven on Jan. 29, 2019, Kataruchuck said.

The whole case was reviewed by a retired judge and a ministry officer. The officer received a copy of the indictment, but he did not participate in the investigation. Thus, given the circumstances, the said officer was removed from his post today, the minister said.

Vigilance is also investigating the role of Minu Malhotra, a close associate of former minister Ashu.

When Kataruchuk was asked about Ashu’s role, he refused to say anything except that the matter is under investigation.

He said, however, that no one involved in the irregularities would be spared.

Meanwhile, Punjab Congress leader Amrinder Singh Raja Warring while responding to the allegations against Ashu called it a vendetta against the Congress leader and the former minister. Warring said Ashu only implemented the policy adopted by Cabinet.

Is it the minister’s job to check the registration number of vehicles, he asked.

On August 16, the Vigilance Bureau had filed a complaint against three individuals from a company and some officials of the State Department of Food and Civil Supplies for irregularities in the bidding process.

During the investigation, it was found that at the time of the submission of tenders for 2020-21, the vehicle lists submitted by the contractors contained registration numbers of scooters, motorcycles and cars which did not have not been checked by officials due to criminal connivance with each other.

Lagos extends Okada ban to Oshodi, Mushin and others

By Adedapo Adesanya

The Lagos State Government has assured residents that the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT), also known as the Red Line Project, will soon be completed.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Officer (CPS), Mr. Gboyega Akosile, said that the transport infrastructure being developed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) will have the capacity to carry over 500,000 passengers per day when it becomes operational in the first quarter of next year.

The Lagos Red Line rail will cross on standard gauge from Agbado to Oyingbo, in the first phase, while terminating at Iddo in the second phase. It has eight stations and is expected to reduce travel by more than two hours.

Mr. Sanwo-Olu, accompanied during the tour of the project by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Obafemi Hamzat, and cabinet members, first stopped at Agege’s multi-level terminal, where he inspected installation completion work.

The Agege Red Line terminal shares the same yard with the federally built Babatunde Raji Fashola station but is approximately 300 meters apart.

The governor also inspected staff quarters built by the Lagos government for railway workers employed by the federal government.

Mr Sanwo-Olu later led the team to the iconic Red Line Ikeja station, where 80% of the civil works had been completed, where he checked on the progress of the viaduct being built. on the Awolowo Way axis to ensure non-interference of vehicle traffic on the railway crossing.

The Governor stopped at Mushin Terminal, to inspect the station and the overpass, which stretches between Kayode and Ogunmokun streets, under development, before proceeding to Yaba and Oyingbo stations.

After the exercise which lasted four hours, Mr. Sanwo-Olu said he was satisfied with the quality of the work, revealing that most of the difficult tasks had been completed.

The entire construction, the governor said, has entered the finishing phase during which precast beams and other concrete fixtures are coupled to the constructed structures.

He said: “The red line is a project conceived and initiated by our government, which will be carried out during the lifetime of this administration. We are committed to ensuring that the project is completed by the end of this year, as promised. This is our fourth inspection trip on this project in the year alone and each time we come there is significant progress the contractor is making along the rail corridor.

“Along the rail corridor, massive regeneration is taking place and we have paid a significant sum in terms of compensation, far more than anyone else, for those affected by construction activities. That is why we do not have any problems with the members of the communities in this corridor. After inspecting Agege station, we went to check out Ikeja terminal, which happens to be the iconic red line station. Its size is almost the size of three football fields together.

“As we have seen, all stations inspected are at roof level, nearing completion. The civil works are finished, it’s just the finishing work we are doing at the moment. All activities are on schedule and we hope that the best complete project will be completed by the end of the year. Some locations were particularly difficult for the contractor to drill due to the high density of vehicles. All challenges have been overcome; what remains is in situ concrete and the placement of precast beams.

Mr Sanwo-Olu said construction work on the viaducts was at various stages of completion, but assured that all work would be completed by December.

He said work on the bridge over Awolowo Way on Agege Motor Road and the inner Mongoro bus stand remained on track and would be completed by the end of October.

Mr Sanwo-Olu said the Mushin overpass, which crosses Kayode Street at Ikorodu Road to Agege Motor Road in Mushin, and the one at Yaba from Tejuosho exiting at Murtala Muhammed Road would be completed by November.

To eliminate human interference with the rail corridor, the Governor has declared that the rail passage will be isolated from residential areas. This, he said, would also prevent encroachment and unauthorized business activities around the corridor.

Boredom turns into business for Sturgis Motorcycle Rally salesman | Company

STURGIS – When COVID-19 brought travel to a halt in 2020, Courtney Johnson was stuck at home and couldn’t travel for work.

Instead of being bored, she took up sewing, a hobby she always wanted to pursue. She bought a sewing machine and started sewing clothes. However, finding herself drawn to leather, she bought a new machine and left.

“I learned it all on my own, sewing it all, online through YouTube and TikTok and all that,” Johnson said. “I can see things when I see a piece of clothing or something, I can just see what it could turn into.”

Very quickly, she was transformed into a tote bag to transform sentimental objects, such as her husband’s military coat.

“I’m a very sentimental person and so having something that really means something to you or the person” (is important), she said.

Now she has her own stand at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, her first appearance as an exhibitor, called King Pine Customs. Johnson said she grew up in Gorman, Nebraska, and had participated in the rally before, but hadn’t been back for a long time.

Johnson is an interior designer by trade, but said she’s always been into fashion. She said she has always been creative but never had time to learn how to sew. Now she has four standard styles she can transform clothes into and plans to have more along the way.

She said it depends on what garment someone brings, but can turn one or more garments into a tote bag, a tassel bag, a double loop, and the boot bag. Johnson said certain items on a garment can really stand out and be an obvious accent or pocket for the bag.

“It kind of transforms when I look at it,” she said.

Johnson said she sometimes had to complete the hardware based on the size of the garment given to her, but she did so with things like zippers.

“It’s a wedding of everything,” she said.

Johnson said she would not actively sew while at the rally, but had bags for sale, including Harley-Davidson jackets and boots that had become bags, although she was able to respond to requests and to consult exhibits.

She said the hardest thing for her was getting people to understand exactly what she was doing.

“I can take these parts that are just in closets, they can put thousands of miles on them or it has special meaning,” Johnson said. “Once you take it out, it’s in a closet or in a box, it’s given away.”

Johnson said she hopes she can help people take their memories home with them. Johnson’s stand is located near Harley-Davidson at the corner of Junction Avenue and Main Street in Sturgis. She said delivery times are around 12 to 16 weeks.

US agency investigates Tesla crashes | Company

DETROIT (AP) — Two crashes involving Teslas apparently running on autopilot are drawing the attention of federal regulators and pointing to a potential new hazard on U.S. highways: Partially automated vehicles may fail to stop for motorcycles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration dispatched investigation teams to two crashes last month in which Teslas collided with motorcycles on dark highways. Both were deadly.

The agency suspects that Tesla’s partially automated driver assistance system was used in each of them. The agency says once it gathers more information, it could include the crashes in a larger investigation of Teslas hitting emergency vehicles parked along highways. NHTSA is also investigating more than 750 complaints that Teslas may brake for no reason.

The first crash involving a motorcyclist happened at 4:47 a.m. on July 7 on State Route 91, a highway in Riverside, California. A white Tesla Model Y SUV was driving east in the high occupancy vehicle lane. Ahead of him was a rider on a green Yamaha V-Star motorcycle, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.

At some point the vehicles collided and the unidentified motorcyclist was ejected from the Yamaha. He was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters.

Whether or not the Tesla was running on Autopilot is under investigation, a CHP spokesperson said.

The second crash happened around 1:09 a.m. July 24 on Interstate 15 near Draper, Utah. A Tesla Model 3 sedan was behind a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, also in a HOV lane. “The Tesla driver did not see the motorcyclist and collided with the rear of the motorcycle, throwing the rider off the bike,” the Utah Department of Public Safety said in a statement. press release prepared.

The rider, identified as Landon Embry, 34, of Orem, Utah, died at the scene. The Tesla driver told authorities he had activated the vehicle’s Autopilot setting, according to the statement.
