As the end draws near for combustion engine cars, we see what the final fossil fuel flourishes could look like. It’s happening everywhere: Porsche put a GT3 engine in the Cayman, Lamborghini’s penultimate Huracan is rear-wheel drive and as powerful as a McLaren F1, BMW is making its first CSL in 20 years and Pagani has given itself worth developing an all-new 6.0-liter V12. While there’s still a chance manufacturers are going crazy with internal combustion – fantastic news.

Some have gone further in their celebration of gasoline power, exposing several hundred horsepower to the elements with supercar speedsters. How better to celebrate wonderful engines than without any protection from the outside? Anyone with experience of screenless sports cars from Caterham, Lotus and so on will tell you how much more visceral a real roadster is – so imagine the experience with three times the power. Ferrari made their Monzas, Bentley gave us the Bacalar, McLaren produced the Elva and Aston Martin entered the fray with the V12 Speedster.

The latter followed the pattern set by the Elva and the Monza, stripping a Vantage of a skeletal frame, then introducing a power-shedding load. In the case of the Speedster, that meant styling that echoed 2013’s CC100 concept – making the Vantage Roadster as visually exciting as an MX-5 in the process – and an engine from the DBS. When we drove the prototype V12 Speedster, the praise was reserved for the damping, traction and brakes. “Think of it like a muscled naked motorcycle and you pretty much get it: it can go fast, but only in small bursts. On roads with sharp turns and frequent enough to reduce speed, the lack of protection definitely increases the feeling of speed and the feeling of connection. The verdict was unequivocal: “The Speedster is absolutely crazy, but also extremely desirable.”

All 88s were announced fairly early, even with a price approaching £800,000, and that seemed to be the Speedster – notably with the impending V12 Vantage too. But here’s one for sale, number 57 of 88, a UK supplied car about as close to new as it gets, with just 14 miles on it. Aston’s F1 Green satin has arguably never looked better than here, especially when paired with Sahara Tan on the interior. Also note how the lime green accents on the outside are matched by similar highlights for the inside, and don’t forget to check out the carbon Stilo headsets tucked into the leather-lined boot. As a car to go, there’s not much that can touch a V12 Speedster.

The Aston is listed with POA; it seems unlikely (impossible, really) that this will be offered for less than that original £765,000 RRP, given the rarity and sensational spec. But if your collection of speedster supercars is missing the last piece, or the Aston Martin wallet calls for a showstopper – or you just need something to spend that £184million on – there can’t be much better than the V12 Speedster .

A magnificent 1974 MV Agusta 750S

The MV Agusta 750S came out in 1970, it was a superbike the world had been asking for for years, but there was just one catch – it cost almost three times as much as a Honda CB750.

The crown jewel of the MV Agusta 750S was its engine, an advanced inline four-cylinder all-alloy engine with double overhead camshafts, electric starter and unit construction including a 5-speed gearbox. It was one of the most technically sophisticated motorcycles in production at the time of its unveiling.

The four Italian transversals

Gianini and Remor had proven the concept, but they suffered from a severe lack of funding to continue development. Fortunately, aero-engine builder CNA stepped in and took over the project – developing the engine into a liquid-cooled, supercharged DOHC inline-four, now capable of over 80hp.

Named the “Rondine”, it is said to be the motorcycle engine that propelled 1st and 2nd place finishes in the 1935 Tripoli Grand Prix in Italy.

The Arrival Of Gilera And La Rondine

Shortly after the success of the Rondine-powered motorcycles at the Tripoli Grand Prix, the design was purchased by Guiseppe Gilera of the Gilera motorcycle company.

Perhaps the only flaw in the 750S’s armor was the fact that it came with a shaft drive that wasn’t suitable for racing. Aftermarket kits were available to change it to chain drive if the owner wished.

Gilera engineers developed a modified version of the Rondine engine and continued to compete with it until the outbreak of World War II in Europe in 1939.

After the war a new transverse inline-four was developed from scratch, it was one of the most advanced motorcycle engines in the world at the time and it propelled Gilera riders to a multitude of race and championship victories.

MV Agusta: extraordinary headhunters

In 1949, MV Agusta successfully hired the Gilera team’s chief engine designer and chief mechanic – Piero Remor and Arturo Magni respectively. It was the same Piero Remor who had co-developed the first transverse inline-four in the early 1920s.

It was a major coup for MV Agusta, the pair set out to design a 500cc transverse four that was so similar to their original Gilera design that people were wondering if any parts could be swapped between them.

This new engine has proven itself in competition time and time again, along with the other MV Agusta’s it has helped the company to 270 Motorcycle Grand Prix victories, 38 Drivers’ World Championship victories and 37 World Championship victories. builders.

MV Agusta 750S

For years, Grand Prix motorcycle racing fans have been clamoring for a road-legal production version of the MV Agusta race bikes.

The company had held that back, no one is quite sure why, but the most likely reason seemed to be that they didn’t want privateer racers competing alongside the factory race bikes and possibly beating them.

The company finally acquiesced in 1965, releasing the MV Agusta 600 – a cruiser-style motorcycle fitted with a 600cc version of their famous transverse quad. The bike wasn’t particularly attractive, it certainly wasn’t sporty, and it cost a small fortune.

Sales of the 600 were dismal and in 1970 the company finally gave the motorcycling public what they had always wanted – the MV Agusta 750S.

The four-cylinder engine had four carburettors at the rear of the head and four exhaust manifolds up front, which fed four mufflers.

Now, with its engine bored out to 743cc, the DOHC transverse four-cylinder produced 72bhp at 9,200rpm and had a top speed of 200kph or 120mph. It cost three times the price of the Honda CB750, a Japanese motorcycle that was no doubt inspired by the powerful Italian fours.

Sales were relatively slow, with just over 100 built per year for five years, 583 were built in total. Today, they are among the most collected superbikes of the era.

The MV Agusta 750S you see here is a 1974 model, the penultimate year of production. It’s finished in the company’s classic red/blue/white livery.

Perhaps most interestingly, it was recently restored to concours condition by none other than Giovanni Magni – the son of Arturo Magni, who was Race Director for MV Agusta throughout the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

Bridgeport to proceed with sale of Sikorsky to CT Airport Authority, despite Stratford pitch

BRIDGEPORT — The Sikorsky Memorial Airport Commission voted to move forward with plans to sell the airport to the Connecticut Airport Authority at its meeting Thursday afternoon.

The commission will now forward the CAA’s term sheet – a negotiating framework – for the sale of the airport to Bridgeport City Council. The CAA offered to buy the airport for $10 million months ago, but that figure is subject to Federal Aviation Administration approval because no entity can pay more for the airport than Bridgeport has lost, according to CAA Executive Director Kevin Dillon .

During Thursday’s meeting, the commission heard presentations from the CAA and the City of Stratford on the sale of the airport before ultimately voting in favor of the CAA, with Stratford Mayor Laura Hoydick – the only responsible for the city of the commission – the only vote against .

Hoydick in March surprised state and local officials when she announced the city’s interest in the purchase of the airport, which is owned by Bridgeport but based in Stratford.

After the meeting, Hoydick questioned the legality of the post-vote process.

“It is unfortunate that the airport commission did not vote to advance Stratford to city council to buy the airport,” Hoydick said. “I don’t really know if this process was legal. She also questioned the timing, as the meeting took place at 3 p.m. and ended within the hour.

“I expect the Town of Stratford to verify that this was conducted legally and noticed appropriately and that the agenda lists all action items as appropriate,” Hoydick said. “That’s not how we do things in the town of Stratford. And I don’t think that’s the way the city council normally does either.

Dillon acknowledged the significant investment the airport may need to be fully utilized to bring it up to commercial passenger standards. He cited the figure of about $62 million in total investment in facilities.

“We believe Sikorsky Airport, unfortunately, is currently underutilized and underdeveloped,” Dillon said. “We believe as an airport authority here in the state that there is a real opportunity to invest in the airport and grow the airport. The California Highway Patrol Chevrolet Camaro from “The Junkman”

The Junkman is an action film released in 1982 by HB Halicki, it was the second part of his trilogy which started with the original I’m going in 60 seconds and was then followed by Auto theft deadline.

During filming The Junkman over 150 cars, trucks, motorcycles and planes were destroyed, today the film still holds the Guinness World Record for the most vehicles destroyed in a single film.

HB Halicki and “Gone In 60 Seconds”

Henry Blight “Toby” Halicki, better known as HB Halickiwas a Polish-American director, writer, stuntman, actor, and filmmaker who started out working on vehicles as a mechanic before starting his own car pound and towing business in California.

In 1974 Halicki wrote, directed, produced and starred in the film I’m going in 60 secondsit became a cult classic appreciated for its unusual style and numerous chase scenes.

During filming, he would end up with 10 compacted vertebrae after performing the film’s 128-foot-long (39-meter) jump finale, this left him limping for the rest of his life.

Halicki’s next film would be The Junkman in 1982, he wrote, directed, produced and acted in the film, it takes place in the same cinematic universe as I’m going in 60 secondsand the previous film was referenced in the plot.

A year later, in 1983, Halicki released the third film in the trilogy, Theft Autoin which he also acted, wrote, produced and directed.

Tragically, Halicki was killed in a stunt during filming Gone in 60 seconds 2 in 1989. He was preparing for the film’s main stunt sequence in which a 160-foot-tall (49-meter) water tower was about to collapse, but a stabilizer cable attached to the water tower broke from unexpectedly, ripping out a telephone pole which fell and killed Halicki instantly.

The remake of 2000’s “Gone In 60 Seconds”

Six years later, in 1995, Halicki’s widow, Denice Halicki, began working with Jerry Bruckheimer and the Touchstone Pictures team to produce a remake of I’m going in 60 seconds.

1982 County smashes pre-sale estimate to become most expensive modern classic tractor sold to date

The tractor smashed its pre-sale estimate when it went under the hammer at Cheffins’ first vintage collective sale in 2022

The sale saw over 2,800 lots go under the hammer and buyers from across the UK and Europe.

This county 1474 sold for £214,400

The County 1474, with a presale estimate of £120,000-140,000, sold for the highest price of the day.

After being completely restored, the tractor attracted considerable interest before the sale.

Other big sales in the tractor section included £73,000 for a 2004 JCB 2140, against an estimate of £60-65,000; £48,240 for a 1983 Mercedes-Benz MB-Trac 1500, well above its pre-sale estimate and £42,880 for a superb 1974 County 1164.

These were purchased by collectors in the UK and Ireland.

Another notable lot was a 1956 Fowler VF Crawler, which was found in its original condition having been used on the Landwade Hall Estate, near Newmarket, since new.

It sold for £16,080, against a pre-sale estimate of £6-7,000 and is a new record price for this particular model.

The sale also saw Cheffins’ largest shipment of motorcycles to date, with several high prices secured from the 80 lots on offer.

A collectible 1923 Morgan-Darmont Sports Model 980cc three-wheeler sold for £21,920 to a buyer in Lincolnshire, while a P&M ‘Rob North’ Triumph T150 racing motorcycle fetched £10,412, after having been sold to a collector in Northern Ireland.

Brough Superiors are the stars of the blockbuster Bonhams Motorcycles Sale

It was offered yesterday in excellent condition, having covered just over 18,500 miles from new and having been kept in a museum in a temperature-controlled environment since 2009.

As always, the Bonhams Spring Stafford Sale offered several collections of high-quality motorcycles and spare parts, led by the Alan Windsor collection. This selection of flagship British and Japanese models was put together by the well-known figure in classic motorcycle racing.
