FREY’s Evolve E-MTB offers a high-end kit at an affordable price

Chinese e-bike manufacturer FREY has been in the market since 2013 and has earned a reputation for its affordable yet performance-oriented e-bikes. Covering a broad spectrum of the market, FREY’s e-bike offerings range from beginner-focused urban commuters to performance-focused eMTBs capable of some of the toughest terrain.

Its new offering sits squarely in the middle of the eMTB game, and it’s called the Evolve. Similar to most of FREY’s other offerings, the Evolve commands an attractive price, starting at $2,980, and is packed with technology you’d expect to find in bikes retailing for almost twice the price. FREY’s Evolve eMTB range currently consists of two models: the Neo and Neo Pro, and frame sizes range from Medium, Large and Extra Large. Regardless of the variant, the FREY Evolve series contains a downtube-integrated battery with a capacity of 672 Wh, a Bafang M510 mid-drive electric motor.

The Evolve’s performance specifications consist of a top speed limited to 25 miles per hour, per e-bike rules and regulations. Additionally, the Bafang M510 is rated for a peak power of 580 watts and 95 Nm, which should make even the steepest and most technical climbs feel like a walk in the park. The battery is claimed to provide a range of up to 60 miles on a single charge under optimal driving conditions. To help the rider get the most out of the powertrain, a host of premium components from some of the most reputable manufacturers in the industry.

This is where the Evolve Neo and Neo Pro differ, as the more affordable Neo packs a basic, albeit impressive, set of components like a RockShox Recon fork with 150mm of travel, Tektro HD brakes and a nine-speed SRAM drivetrain. The Evolve Neo Pro, on the other hand, which costs $3,580, raises the bar in terms of features with a RockShox Yari with 160mm of travel, Magura MT5e brakes and an 11-speed SRAM drivetrain.

Overall, FREY’s Evolve range of bikes offers remarkable value for money. Weighing the scales at 26 kilograms, these machines are by no means featherweights, but are nonetheless capable eMTBs for casual trail explorers. FREY offers them in three colors including Mako Blue, Sunrise Pink and Wafer White.

The first day of school also means a whole new space for some students in the South Huron region

Students return to class on Tuesday and for some students in the Huron South area of Kitchener, they are entering a brand new school.

Oak Creek Public School will serve nearly 600 students from the area, which has seen significant growth in recent years.

“Standing here, [the area] is still under construction, it’s still in development,” school principal Jeff Johnson told CBC Kitchener-Waterloo. The morning edition.

Johnson said the school welcomes new families who have just moved to the area, as well as other newcomer families. The school also draws students from nearby public schools, including Janet Metcalfe Public School.

“Our school community will be very diverse and we look forward to getting to know them,” he said.

The goal is for the school to also be a “walking school,” Johnson adds, where students walk, ride or cycle instead of taking public transport.

The school has been under construction since the Waterloo Region District School Board received funding for construction in 2018. It is also home to a new daycare center and the new City of Kitchener Community Center.

Johnson said the school board took a modern approach to space design with lots of natural light, wider hallways and a general openness to classrooms and common areas.

Johnson points to some of the key features of the classroom, including flow desks to make it easier to group and move students, whiteboards set to student height, and new flat-screen TVs in the classroom instead of projectors .

“There’s really no ‘front of the class,’” he said, adding that there’s also no desk for the teachers.

“There are workstations for teachers and plenty of table space, but that table space is going to be used to facilitate learning, conferences and small group work.”

Johnson said getting to know his students and their families will be central to building new relationships this year.

“I’m really excited to get started and create this sense of community here in Oak Creek,” he said.

A look back at road accident deaths after Cyrus Mistry’s fatal crash

The fatal road accident involving former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry on Sunday has once again highlighted the high number of deaths caused by such incidents in the country each year, with government data showing that a record 1.55 lakh lives were lost in 2021.

Mistry, 54, was killed this afternoon after his car hit a wall in Palghar district, Maharashtra, while traveling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car.

The accident happened around 3:15 p.m. on a bridge spanning the Surya River. It appears to be an accident, Palghar Police Superintendent Balasaheb Patil said.

According to National Crime Records Bureau data released recently, more than 1.55 lakh people were killed in road accidents across India in 2021 – an average of 426 per day or 18 every hour. This is the highest number of fatalities recorded in such accidents in a calendar year to date.

Apart from fatalities, 3.71 lakh people were also injured in 4.03 lakh “road accidents” across the country last year, NCRB figures showed under “Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India. 2021″.

The data showed that a majority (59.7%) of road accidents were due to speeding, accounting for 87,050 deaths and injuries among 2.28 lakh people.

While the number of deaths in road accidents reached its highest level last year, the number of road accidents and injuries decreased compared to previous years, revealed the NCRB report, which depends on the Ministry of the Interior.

The death rate per thousand vehicles in 2021 (0.53) was higher than that of 2020 (0.45) and 2019 (0.52) but lower than that of 2018 (0.56) and 2017 (0.59) , according to the data.

In 2020, the year of the COVID-19 lockdowns, there were 3.54 lakh road accidents in the country in which 1.33 lakh people died while another 3.35 lakh were injured. , according to the data.

In 2019, there were 4.37 lakh road accidents in which 1.54 lakh people died while another 4.39 lakh were injured, according to the data.

The country recorded 4.45 lakh road accidents in 2018, in which 1.52 lakh people lost their lives while another 4.46 lakh were injured, he noted.

The figures in 2017 stood at 4.45 lakh accidents, 1.50 lakh fatalities and 4.56 lakh injuries, according to NCRB figures.

“In general, road accidents resulted in more injuries than deaths, but in Mizoram, Punjab, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, road accidents resulted in more deaths than injuries,” said said the NCRB in its annual report.

For Mizoram, the figures were 64 dead and 28 injured in 64 road accidents, while Punjab recorded 4,516 dead and 3,034 injured in 6,097 road accidents, the NCRB said.

“In Jharkhand, 4,728 road accidents caused 3,513 deaths and injured 3,227 people, and in Uttar Pradesh, 33,711 road accidents caused 21,792 deaths and injured 19,813 people,” he added.

Data from the NCRB report for 2021 also suggested that public transport, such as buses, was safer than private modes of transport, such as motorcycles.

Of the total number of deaths in road accidents, 44.5% were drivers of “two-wheelers”, followed by cars (15.1%), trucks or lorries (9.4%) and bus (3%), revealed the data.

Dangerous or reckless driving or overtaking contributed to 25.7% of road accidents which caused 42,853 deaths and injured 91,893 people, it added.

Only 2.8% of road accidents were due to bad weather conditions, the NCRB noted.

Of the total number of road accidents, 59.7% were reported in rural areas (2.40 lakh cases) and 40.3% in urban areas (1.62 lakh cases), the report adds.

The NCRB said it has endeavored to collect comprehensive road accident information using the revised forms and has published the first report for the year 2014 and this edition is the eighth in the series.

A brand new 1981 Yamaha SR500 still in the factory crate

Interestingly, this is the second time we’ve featured a 1981 Yamaha SR500 that’s still new in its original factory crate in the last 12 months, so if you’re having a bit of deja vu, don’t be don’t worry, we do too.

The reason two essentially identical examples of the 1981 Yamaha SR500 have appeared for sale still in their shipping crates with 0 miles on the odometer is that they were both purchased by the same man when new , but unfortunately, his planned plan for them would never come to fruition.

Quick Facts – The Yamaha SR500

  • The SR500 was first released in 1978, essentially as a road version of the popular Yamaha XT500 off-road motorcycle.
  • The SR500 is powered by a renowned for its robust air-cooled single-cylinder engine with a single overhead camshaft, two valves per cylinder, a single carburetor and a 5-speed transmission.
  • Thanks to the SR500’s affordability and indestructibility, it has become a popular commuter bike in Japan, Australia and Europe.
  • In recent years, the SR500 and its stablemate the SR400 have become a mainstream choice for custom motorcycle builders around the world who turn them into cafe racers, scramblers, flat trackers and Brat-style bikes.

The Yamaha SR500

In 1981, you could walk into a Yamaha motorcycle dealership and buy yourself a road-legal street bike that was powered by the same engine that had propelled the Yamaha XT500 to victories in the Paris-Dakar Rally the previous two years. – 1979 and 1980.

Although the specs of the SR500 may not seem that impressive, the engine won the first two races of the Paris Dakar Rally and it became one of the longest lasting engine designs in Yamaha history.

On paper, the specs of the Yamaha SR500 don’t seem particularly interesting. It is powered by an air-cooled 500cc single-cylinder engine with a single overhead camshaft, two valves, single carburettor, single exhaust and an integrated 5-speed gearbox.

The motor is mounted on a tubular steel half-duplex cradle frame, it has standard telescopic forks up front and a pair of adjustable shock absorbers in the rear. There are seats and pegs for two and the usual assortment of turn signals, a headlight and taillight.

Despite the somewhat average sound specs, the SR500 and its stablemate, the SR400, would become cult classics in Japan and around the world.

The bike’s low weight and extreme reliability endeared it to urban riders, and custom motorcycle builders created a wide range of unusual bikes based on the SR500, including cafe racers, scramblers, flat trackers , brat-style bikes and a mid-steer wild creation. by Japanese Skull Motorcycles.

yamaha-sr500-740x567-1

A wide variety of different versions of the SR500 have been offered from the factory, and custom motorcycle builders around the world have long favored the model as their starting point.

The SR500 was originally released in 1978 and it was sold until 1999 when it was replaced by the SR400. Even though the SR400 is powered by a slightly smaller engine at 400cc, power levels were similar and from 2010 it received fuel injection to meet modern emissions regulations.

How This SR500 Ended Up In A Crate

It’s a bit sad why two SR500s ended up in crates, but it has now presented two people with unique opportunities to purchase brand new examples of one of Yamaha’s most important models.

I’ll put it back here for the seller to tell you the story below:

“This bike, and a second matching bike, were both purchased new, in 1981, by a gentleman from Harrison Township, Michigan. He bought one for himself and one for his son and delivered them both in the crate as he planned to assemble them himself with his son.

“His son has never done motorcycles, time has passed and 41 years later he decided it was time to sell some stuff.”

The bike you see here is part of the original pair, and you can read more about the other here if you’re interested.

This one is currently offered for sale on Bring A Trailer out of Livonia, Michigan. If you want to know more or register to bid you can visit the list here.

A Jefferson Parish jury deliberated just 45 minutes before finding Jalen Harvey, the man accused of killing a New Orleans realtor while posing as a potential motorcycle buyer whose victim announced online, guilty of first-degree murder Thursday night, the Jefferson Parish district attorney’s office said.

Harvey, 22, was also convicted of obstructing justice and abusing monetary instruments in connection with the shooting death of 29-year-old Joseph Vindel.

Vindel was shot on March 7, 2021 after being lured to Harvey’s Manhattan Boulevard apartment complex in the community of Harvey.

Joseph Vindel, 29, is shown here in a photo his girlfriend shared on Facebook on Monday, March 8. Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputies say Vindel was shot and killed while trying to sell a dirt bike on Sunday.

Harvey contacted Vindel after Vindel advertised the sale of his red Honda dirt bike using the online marketplace application OfferUp, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective Kurt Zeagler said during from an earlier hearing in the case.

Vindel left his Uptown home around 10 a.m., telling his girlfriend he would be back shortly, according to Zeagler. He had a brief text exchange with his dad right after he left the house. After that, Vindel was never heard from again, Zeagler said.

Prosecutors accused Harvey of conspiring to rob Vindel by paying for the bike with fake money. But the transaction took a deadly turn when Harvey shot Vindel multiple times while the Vindel was sitting inside his vehicle.

Vindel had a gun, but the weapon did not have a chambered cartridge and was not fired, according to the district attorney’s office. And a gunshot wound to Vindel’s hand contradicted Harvey’s claim that Vindel first pointed a gun at him, authorities said.

Jalen Harvey, 20, has been charged with first degree murder and armed robbery in the death of Joseph Vindel, 29.

Vindel’s heart was still pounding when authorities said Harvey dragged his body into the backseat of Vindel’s SUV. Harvey then rode in the SUV, to which was hitched a trailer carrying the dirt bike, for more than an hour, the district attorney’s office said.

Harvey abandoned the vehicle, which still contained Vindel’s body, in the 2300 block of Coliseum Street in New Orleans, then drove the dirt bike back to his apartment on the West Bank, authorities said. .

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and the New Orleans Police Department tracked the phone number used to contact Vindel to Harvey’s apartment complex. There, deputies spotted Vindel’s dirt bike on Harvey’s back patio.

During the trial, Harvey testified that he doused Vindel’s body with gasoline in an attempt to destroy any DNA evidence, the district attorney’s office said.

The obstruction charge stems from Harvey’s efforts to dispose of evidence, including driving Vindel’s body to the Garden District. Vindel’s wallet and cell phone were never found.

The monetary instrument misuse charge involves Harvey’s use of movie props money in the online sales transaction. Detectives also found more than 175 counterfeit $100 bills in his apartment.

Secure areas for internet sales

Vindel’s murder led the Sheriff’s Office and the NOPD to create “safe trading areas” for Internet sales transactions.

But Morgan Tyrone, 24, of Pascagoula, was fatally shot on April 10 in Terrytown after sheriff’s office investigators said Daniel Tenner, 20, staged an armed robbery under the guise of selling an iPhone on the Facebook market.

Tenner was arrested and convicted of first degree murder and two counts of attempted first degree murder. His case has not yet been judged.

Harvey will be sentenced by Judge E. Adrian Adams of the 24th Judicial District Court on October 6. He faces a mandatory life sentence.
