Honda says it has no plans to separate and list motorcycle business

Sept. 13 (Reuters) – Honda Motor Co Ltd (7267.T) is considering going public with its electric motorcycle unit, The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing the Japanese automaker’s chief executive Yoshishige Nomura.

The history of the Aprilia RS250 motorcycle has been quite impressive since its introduction from 1994 to 2004. However, the two-stroke engine is rather old technology and is not allowed for the current market due to non-compliance with standards of global emissions.

Despite this, sources confirm that Aprilia will bring back the RS250 model but with a new engine. The engine is a 250cc parallel platform 4-stroke (4-stroke).

This CAD sketch shows the brand new 250cc DOHC 4-stroke parallel twin engine that Aprilia is developing. Interestingly, this engine places a “center cam drive” between the cylinders instead of just one side.

Several factors contribute to this configuration, including producing a more compact “cylinder head” while reducing the flexibility of the “camshaft” and “crankshaft”. What is certain is that this 250cc parallel twin developed by Aprilia was never made by another manufacturer.

For the record, the engine has been registered by Zongshen-Piaggio in China and will be at the heart of the all-new RS250 for the European and American markets. Meanwhile, for the Asian market, Aprilia will use the name GPR250RR.

Zongshen was also previously responsible for the production of the Aprilia RS125 and GPR250R for the Chinese market, powered by a single-cylinder engine. The GPR250R is also the platform for the RS250 SP which is released as a circuit machine in the United States in 2020.

The development of this new model indirectly marks the next stage of Aprilia and comes to compete with the 250cc “sportsbike” segment which is currently led by the Yamaha R25, Honda CBR250RR and Kawasaki Ninja 250.

LiveWire ONE 2022 – Performance, Price and Photos

Range and charge rates continue to present challenges across the EV industry, but performance has always been top notch. The LiveWire ONE is no exception. It has a three second time from 0 to 60 that will put almost everything else on two wheels in the bike-smoking business to shame.

The LiveWire ONE’s Revelation engine produces 100 horsepower and 84 pound-feet of torque. As usual for the genre, all that grunt is available as soon as you roll without needing to let it wind up.

Energy stored in a 15.4 kWh high-voltage battery is recharged at varying times depending on the method. If you have access to a public DC fast charging facility, you can slam a 100% charge into the PSU in just an hour with 80% available after just 40 minutes.

For people who charge at home, 110-volt service is all you need. It’ll be ready to ride in 11 hours, making it perfect for commuting and as a basic form of transportation.

City mileage is increased somewhat by the regenerative braking feature and lower gears to give the LiveWire ONE a maximum range of 146 miles on a single charge. Highway mileage drops to 70 miles per charge while the combined average falls between the two at 95 miles.

A six-axis IMU sends data to include an angle-sensitive component to the drag torque control system and traction control system for added safety. The TCS comes with five dynamic riding modes for quick personality changes depending on the conditions.

Top-of-the-line overhead gear puts the LiveWire ONE on par with the best on the market. Showa SFF-BP stems float up front through the full range of settings. Out back, a Showa BFRC coil-sprung monoshock takes care of business with the same trifecta of settings.

The steering head sets up a 24.5-degree lean angle with 4.3 inches of trail. This gives the LiveWire ONE handling characteristics worthy of the “sport” part of its moniker. In case you doubt it, the factory specifies a 45 degree tilt angle on both sides, which is plenty sporty indeed.

17-inch cast wheels complete the rolling chassis with Michelin Scorcher Sport HD rubber. The hoops rock a “Z” speed rating that will take whatever you and the ONE can do. That should be a bit of a comfort for you, especially in light of the deep lean angles this bike is capable of pulling.

Twin discs work with four-bore Brembo front calipers to provide the bulk of stopping power while a twin-pot anchor bites the rear disc, all under the protection of a tilt-sensitive ABS feature original that keeps you dirty side down.

2022 LiveWire ONE Price and Availability

The 2022 LiveWire ONE costs $22,799. You can choose from a trio of colors: Liquid Black, Horizon White or Nebula Red. The accession of King Charles III was proclaimed this morning in Front Street by Rena Lalgie, the governor, during a ceremony attended by lawmakers and a hushed crowd of spectators.

A 21-gun salute thundered over Hamilton Harbor to mark the close of the proclamation shortly after 9am, which follows the King’s official proclamation at a ceremony yesterday at St James’s Palace in London.

Flanked by police motorbikes, the Governor’s car pulled up in front of the podium of MPs and other guests at the flagpole on Front Street after the Royal Bermuda Regiment formed up.

Ms Lalgie opened the proclamation with a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday.

As Commander-in-Chief of Bermuda, Ms Lalgie ‘hereby with one voice and consent of tongue and heart’ proclaimed Prince Charles Philip Arthur George King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

He was also proclaimed “Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith”.

A crowd of around 200 spectators gathered early this morning to watch a ceremony that hadn’t been seen in decades – with many people unsure how the event would unfold.

Among the guests at the podium was Sir John Swan, the former Prime Minister, who recalled seeing the newly crowned Queen when she visited Bermuda in 1953 with her husband Prince Philip.

“She came to the throne the year I was 17, and she passed the year I turned 87,” Sir John said.

“When you look today around the world at the leaders who have emerged, I don’t think you can find one who has been so profound, so dignified and so generous with his time.”

He said he hoped King Charles III would “exemplify what his mother stood for”.

Sir John added: ‘I congratulate the Governor, who read the proclamation in a very dignified and frank manner.

“It bodes well for Bermuda. As a colony, we will adhere to the principles of good governance. We count on the King to visit us and walk in Bermuda in the footsteps of his mother. We stand ready to greet him as soon as he is ready.

Sharon Riviere, 77, watched the ceremony from the corner of Burnaby Street where the regimental band played God save the king.

Ms Rivière also recalled the 1953 royal visit.

“I was eight years old and my mum, sister and I were standing outside Parliament in front of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

“Since then, I have followed the royal family. Now, at 77, she will not be my queen, but the monarchy will be part of my heart.”

Grain companies have long included various premiums in their packaging to boost sales. One company even stuffed bundles of uncirculated foreign currency into boxes, where the included colored bills had been inflated to the point that they were worthless as spending money.

You may have attended marketing presentations where attendees had the opportunity to win a draw for a gold or silver coin.

Local and state coin clubs often sell raffle tickets in conjunction with their shows where the prizes are usually coins and currency. Exhibitors at coin shows compete for prizes which are usually coins or medals.

The company I work for has a long history of helping companies use coins for marketing purposes, either as employee incentives or marketing bonuses. The first case was when a Wall Street brokerage firm bought South African gold Krugerrands during the bullion boom of 1979-1980 to give to employees as bonuses.

For years, a mid-sized factory in the Midwest paid out annual longevity bonuses. After working for a full year, these employees received a US Eagle silver dollar. After five years with the company, employees received a 5 1/10 ounce gold American Eagle. After 10 years, they received a US$10 1/4 ounce gold American Eagle. They would occasionally award a US$25 half-ounce gold American Eagle when an employee reached 25 years of longevity.

Among other employee incentive programs where we have provided coins – a large medical practice in our area for a few years gave out Canadian one ounce gold maple leaves as part of annual bonuses to doctors and US Eagle silver dollars to other staff. A statewide insurance company ran sales campaigns for several years in which the most productive sellers received American gold American eagles and American silver dollars.

As for customer gifts, when American silver Eagle dollars debuted in 1986, a national confectionery company purchased 5,000 from my company for prizes as part of a sales promotion. The results must have been satisfactory for the company as they purchased an additional 5,000 silver Eagle dollars in 1988 to repeat the promotion.

A Honda motorcycle dealership in our area launched a campaign where customers who purchased a new Honda Gold Wing motorcycle received a bonus 1/10 ounce gold American Eagle.

A local radio station changes format at Thanksgiving to exclusively broadcast Christmas music during the holiday season. Around December 15 each year, it gives away giveaways to lucky listeners, where some of the prizes are Christmas-themed 1-ounce silver rounds and rectangles.

When my business moved to larger premises in our mall in early 2013, one of the promotional contests we held to encourage visitors was to fill a jar with coins, including silver coins American and foreign and a 2 Mexican gold pesos. The contestant who came closest to guessing the amount of coins in the pot won that pot and the coins in it. There were so many entries for this promotion that there was a tie where one entry was a too low coin and the other was a high coin, which we resolved with a coin toss.

Coins and currencies can be perfectly suited for business marketing purposes in several ways. All it takes is a little creativity.

Toronto Motorcycle Film Festival tickets on sale (and Breath of Life gallery exhibition opens!)

Tickets! Get your tickets! The Toronto Motorcycle Film Festival (and subsequent tours across Canada) are right around the corner, and now you can purchase a pass to access the show.

Show prices depend on the city you’re in and the shows you plan to see (one night? two nights?), so your best bet for prices is to visit the individual sites for Toronto ($75 for VIP), Montreal ($60 for all access) and Calgary ($25 for all access).

Earlier this month, we listed the TMFF 2022 film lineup – as usual, it’s a mix of features and shorts from around the world. You can see our list of this year’s movies here. There’s only one Canadian film screening this year, so if it’s important to you, make sure you get a ticket that allows you to attend that screening.

The Toronto shows take place at the Cinema Revue in Roncesvalles, as always, the weekend of October 6-8.

The breath of life

In addition to the film selection, TMFF organizers are also helping to promote the exhibition Breath of Life by photographer Douglas MacRae at Toronto’s Birch Contemporary gallery. Here is what the TMFF website says about this exhibit:

Photographer and artist, Douglas MacRae’s Breath of Life exhibition is a retrospective of his two greatest passions, travel and motorcycle racing. His wanderlust and lifelong adventurous spirit inspired him to capture evocative cultures and extraordinary landscapes including Bhutan, Burma, Tibet, Nepal, Kenya and Indonesia. Douglas resided in the Dalai Lama’s monastery in India, traveled the Peruvian Amazon and explored Everest Base Camp. In his 20 years as a racing champion, he has photographed some of the most coveted vintage race bikes in North America. This exhibit is a celebration not only of Douglas’s work, but also of his one-year prognosis of stage 4 glioblastoma. Despite the challenges of this incurable brain cancer, he maintained a positive mindset and is now at three and a half years old.

From the photos we’ve seen before, it looks like a fantastic exhibit, especially if you’re familiar with MacRae’s adventures on two wheels and his life behind the lens. It runs from September 8 to October 8, 2022. Find out more here.
