Techron Fuel Line Cleaner is for sale on Amazon

Apologies if this story reaches you a little late – too late to avoid that stall you had on your family trip; too late to save you countless dollars because your car wasn’t getting the fuel economy it should be; too late to avoid that four figure repair/maintenance bill you received from your mechanic. But better late than never, huh? In the future, be aware that pouring a bottle of Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner once in a while can make your car’s engine run smoother and more efficient, extending its life and putting money in your pocket.

Excuse the anatomical metaphor, but Techron is like a combination colonic supplement and vitamins for your car’s fuel system. It unclogs injectors, flushes and freshens your carburetor innards, and keeps your intake valves and combustion chambers running smoothly. The results? Improved morning starting, increased engine power and gas mileage, smoother idling and cleaner emissions, to name a few.

It does this by removing and preventing the build-up of dirt and carbon deposits on these essential parts of your car (or boat or motorcycle) engine. Cleaner means a more efficient, smoother, healthier and smarter ride.

Are low gas mileage, slow starting and rough idling keeping you distracted? It’s time to flush the fuel line. (Photo: Amazon)

It’s too good to be true? More than 10,000 five-star Amazon reviews disagree.

“I’ve put it in ALL my vehicles and boats for over 30 years now,” said that engine whisperer. “Generally one treatment every six months or so, more if a lot of use… Improves acceleration, improves idle, quieter engine, etc. It may be my imagination, but I think the engines really love a ‘shot’ of that stuff!!! Seriously, next to frequent synthetic-only oil changes, this is the best thing you can add to your vehicles to keep them ‘happy’!”

This guyis all excited about Techron too: “I’ve got a 2010 Toyota Prius that’s done over 200,000 miles, I can feel the difference in ride for sure; it’s gotten a lot smoother, and even the mileage has gone up by 4-5 miles per gallon. Amazing product, easy to use.”

“I bought this to see if I would get some extra mileage out of my 2021 GMC Canyon,” bound another delighted driver. “I was getting around 18-19 MPG, but now after about two to three weeks of use I’m getting 20-21. No wonder, but for the price that’s a lot.”

If you have Amazon Premier, you will of course benefit from free delivery. Not a member yet? No problem. You can sign up for your 30 day free trial here. (And by the way, those who don’t have one Prime always get free shipping on orders of $25 or more.)

The other day, as I was returning from a trip to Newfoundland and missing my kids, I started thinking: how can I start taking them on my bike?

The sensible answer is to buy a sidecar. At least, that’s how I see it. My wife, a non-rider, feels differently.

But still, it seems reasonable to me, and it triggered a mental mechanic. What type of sidecar to buy? Like most people, I think the Ural is cool, but it doesn’t have a great reputation for mechanical reliability. At least not any Urals I could afford, as the newer ones are quite expensive. What could I buy along the lines of a Ural, but more likely to get home without an impromptu roadside snatch session?

There is always the Jimbo sidecars option (chinese remanufactured Chang Jiang sidecar platforms, about the same as an Ural, but with BMW air motors installed). But that’s a lot of denaro, and besides, I have nothing against Chinese motorcycles, but the Chang Jiang rig doesn’t have the WWII romance of the Urals… what to do?

Here’s what to do: head over to ADVrider’s flea market sub-forum and check out this awesome setup: a 1984 BMW R100RS mated to a Dnepr sidecar, and all for a reasonable price!

A Ukrainian sidecar with a Russian wheel, mated to a German bicycle. It sounds crazy, but it works. Photo: @pfestus1

Wait, what is a Dnieper?

Most inmates have at least some idea what a BMW R100RS is (the 1984 edition was at the end of production of this model, with an air-cooled boxer twin producing just under 70 horsepower). But a Dnepr? It’s a rare bird, and most of us have never seen one on the street.

Basically, a Dnepr is a Ukrainian version of the Urals. Reports vary; some people say that Dnepr began to build military motorcycles during the Second World War, almost identical to the Ural copy of the BMW R71 design. Other reports indicate that production began in 1946. Anyway, Dnepr built machines very similar to the Urals until the fall of the Iron Curtain. After that they became much less popular, and inmate @rtwdoug once told me that years after the Soviets abandoned Ukraine there were still Dneprs for sale at the factory at price defying all competition.

Dneprs had a similar reputation for reliability as the old-school Ural range, but if you want a rugged sidecar design, this is another option. So that’s what inmate @pfestus1 did: he took a Dnepr sidecar and mated it to a crash-damaged R100RS.

A correct construction

Here’s what the ad says:

I bought the R100RS circa 2005 after suffering a low side crash that destroyed most of the fairing. I bought it for a sidecar project. I took the bike to the Sidecar Magic Shoppe in Buckhannon WV where Gary Haynes built the custom subframe, installed the EML master link forks and mounted the sidecar. I modified the platform again adding a /5 headlight, larger front fender, lower gear final drive from an R60, Euro sidecar handlebars, /5 mufflers, Moto Lights, new Moto Meter/5 speedometer, heated grips, 400+ watt Alternator from Euro Moto Electrics. The 12v car battery is in the trunk of the sidecar. Krauser style saddle bags in good condition are included.

It looks like a well-made build! He notes some differences between the design of the Urals and that of the Dnepr, and he also incorporated parts of the Urals:

Although similar to an Ural, the Dnepr sidecar does not have a trunk door, access to the trunk is through the sidecar seat. The sidecar wheel is an Ural wheel with brake. The sidecar brake is activated by a second brake pedal next to the original rear brake pedal so you can use both the rear brake and the sidecar brake, just the bike brake or only the sidecar brake. I have a Ural windshield for the sidecar. I can ride it, or you can.

The seller says the machine handles and steers well, and will maintain 70mph, cruising happily at 55mph – 65mph. Looks like the engine and gearbox are well maintained; they are stock on the bike, and the seller says the final drive splines were lubricated and the push rod rubbers were replaced about 3,000 miles ago, and the carburetors were rebuilt by Bing. Looks like this setup is good to go!

However, since this is an airhead, you can still expect to pay some mechanical attention to the machine. It’s not a new bike anymore. According to the announcement:

The wiring in the headlight shell needs some attention. Due to an RS’s wiring harness being stuffed into a /5 headlight shell, there are a few things I haven’t figured out yet. The bike will only start in neutral, with the green neutral light on. Oil and generator lights do not work. Someone more electrical than me should be able to fix these issues with the included wiring diagram.

He drops a drop of oil on the ground after going for a walk.

There is a crack in the rear fender where the fender mounts to the subframe from when another motorcycle crashed into it.

That’s not enough to scare me away, not by a long shot, and the fact that this is a 247 series airhead, one of the best supported vintage motors in the world, makes me think any buyer will be able to keep this on the road for a long time.

If it were closer to home, I’d be seriously tempted, at the asking price of US$5,200 (the Roanoke, VA location isn’t for me, alas). While I would have to sell a bike or three to pay for it, the chance to create memories while riding with my kids would be invaluable. As for you: if you’re interested, check out the ad, where @pfestus has his contact details listed!

All-electric: MV Agusta thinks EU decision to end sale of petrol motorbikes is ‘aggressive’

With the UK government’s refusal to sell non-zero emission motorcycles by 2035 (and Triumph’s TE-1, Ducati’s V21L, Harley-Davidson’s LiveWire and Can Am’s recent fodder in the electric industry) comes the opinion of MV Agusta on the matter; and while the iconic Italian brand believes in the use of electric motorcycles – evidenced by its range of e-bikes and e-scooters – it doesn’t believe the technology is ready for higher-performance models.

Not yet anyway.

That’s the opinion of Agusta’s director of research and development, Brian Gillen, who for a while sat with Multi-channel network to talk about it.

“The government’s proposed plan to phase out gas-powered bicycles by 2035 is an aggressive stance that sends a clear message,” Gillen admits.

“There are many technical hurdles that must be overcome to enable the motorcycle industry to achieve current levels of performance and range with the same or less weight and cost than current internal combustion engines. ”

mcn-2-1 View of a zero emission scooter from the MV Agusta ranges. Media sourced from MCN.

With strong industry demands for versatile, small-capacity city scoots, MV Agusta’s current zero-emission ranges are reaping the benefits of the economy – but will Agusta ever commit to transferring its successes into fossil-fuel machines towards greater electric motorcycle construction?

mcn-3-2 A larger motorcycle built courtesy of MV Agusta. Media sourced from MCN.

“We strongly believe that due to the limited space available on a bike, the best solution will be fully electric rather than hybrid for performance and touring bikes,” Gillan agrees.

“Currently, the technology exists for low-performance intra-urban mobility motorcycles with limited range…but battery technology for performance-oriented full-size motorcycles is not available on an industrial scale.”

With EICMA months away, we’re looking forward to the season’s reveals – and who knows, maybe MV Agusta is up to something and Gillan just has a stellar poker face.

Michigan’s ‘longest-running garage sale’ draws tourism to Southwest Michigan this weekend

Michigan’s longest yard sale kicks off Friday. Since 2003, the annual US-12 garage sale has spanned more than 200 miles of freeway across southern Michigan.

Every second weekend in August, thousands of people come to visit garage sales in communities from New Buffalo to Detroit.

From Friday to Sunday, you can visit a variety of businesses and communities along the historic trail.

For the past 19 years, the sale has helped people get out into the community, not only to buy goods, buy from local art vendors, farmers, and see shows and other attractions.

US-12 Heritage Trail project coordinator Kris Martin says the event draws people from all over the region in southwestern Michigan.

“We have a lot of people traveling in the state,” Martin said. “We also have people from Ohio, Indiana and Illinois reaching out to me and asking for advice. People are selling everything from cars to RVs to motorcycles to various antiques, clothing art, clothing, children’s items. There is a long list on our website. You can actually sort by product on your sale or by city or community.

The three-day sale brings business to local vendors, communities, nonprofits and historical groups. Martin says the sale has grown over his nineteen years and is helping communities along the way.

“A lot of communities and nonprofits or historical groups will also be renting space,” Martin said. “So that also helps a lot of businesses along the way. Not only does it attract people for it, but we also love supporting the local economy, supporting local restaurants, or staying in bed and breakfasts or hotels. Some people even camp and stay in an RV.

If you’re planning on going out, keep in mind that most vendors take cash.

Martin wants to remind visitors to be safe. If you feel sick, we encourage you to send a friend to do the shopping for you.

While driving, be careful along the highway and be sure to park safely when stopping at each location.

Pre-plan your trip here.

Steve McQueen’s 1971 Husqvarna 400 Cross is for sale

This Husqvarna 400 Cross was purchased by Steve McQueen on August 26, 1971. It would remain one of his favorite bikes for off-road riding, and he would keep it in his collection for the rest of his life.

Although best known as a movie star, McQueen was a successful motorcycle and automobile racer. He competed on the official United States team in the 1964 International Six Days Trial (ISDT), one of the toughest off-road motorcycle races in the world, and he often competed in California under the Harvey Mushman’s name.

Quick Facts – McQueen’s Husqvarna 400 Cross

  • The Husqvarna 400 Cross was released in 1969 as a replacement for the Husqvarna 360. It featured a number of improvements over its predecessor, including an all-welded frame and a more powerful 400cc two-stroke engine.
  • This new model was an immediate success, Bengt Aberg rode his 400 Cross to win the 1969 and 1970 500cc World Championships. brutal races in the Southern California desert.
  • For many, the Husqvarna represents the shift that occurred in the late 1960s between the heavier four-strokes and the lighter two-strokes that would come to dominate off-road racing.
  • The Husqvarna 400 Cross you see here was bought by Steve McQueen in 1971, he kept it for the rest of his life and apparently it was his favorite. It was one of the vehicles sold at its auction in 1984 and has been preserved in its original condition ever since.

The Husqvarna 400 Cross

The Husqvarna 400 Cross was unveiled in 1969 as an all-new replacement for the outgoing Husqvarna 360 model. There was a lot of pressure on the 400 Cross as it was set to reclaim Husqvarna’s position as the world’s leading motocross manufacturer.

This is the original transfer of ownership form which shows the bike was purchased by Solar Productions – Steve McQueen’s film production company.

There’s no denying that the Scandinavians have some weird magic when it comes to vehicle design, and luckily for Husqvarna that magic came to fruition with the 400 Cross.

From 1969 she won two consecutive 500cc World Championships with Swedish rider Bengt Aberg in the saddle. Malcolm Smith and Gunnar Nilsson took turns riding their modified 400 Cross and winning the 1971 Baja 1000, and later this year Mark Blackwell rode one to become the first U.S. National Open-Class Motocross Champion.

The 400 Cross is powered by an air-cooled 396cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine producing 40bhp in standard tuning. Power is sent to a large rear sprocket through a heavy-duty four-speed transmission.

The engine is cradled in a tubular steel frame that is fitted with hydraulic forks up front and twin shocks in the rear. There’s an amply padded seat to help soak up the bumps and perhaps most importantly, the bike has that signature Husqvarna red, white and chrome fuel tank.

steve-mcqueen-husqvarna-400-cross-12-740x493-1

It’s the engine that has propelled riders to multiple world championship titles and a host of race victories. It is a 396 cc single-cylinder two-stroke, air-cooled and developing 40 hp.

The overall design of the bike was relatively standard for its time, although the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, as evidenced by the long list of victories in premier competitions.

Surviving examples of the Husqvarna 400 Cross are now highly collectable, and there are specialists who can restore them to exact factory specifications. They remain popular today as vintage off-road vehicles.

Steve McQueen’s Husqvarna 400 Cross shown here

Of all the Husqvarna 400 Cross examples that still exist, the two most popular (and most valuable) types seem to be those that won vintage motocross and enduro competitions, and those that belonged to Steve McQueen.

steve-mcqueen-husqvarna-400-cross-9-740x493-1

McQueen glued a spare spark plug to the frame in case it was needed, it remains there to this day.

It is believed that McQueen owned at least two examples of this model, possibly three. One of these is now arguably the most famous Husqvarna of the era, the bike he rode in the 1971 documentary film On Any Sunday and which appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated riding.

The Husky you see here is his other bike, and according to some it was a favorite “regular rider”. McQueen purchased the bike in 1971 through his film production company Solar Productions. A number of its vehicles have been purchased through the company over the years.

This bike would eventually be sold in 1984 at the Steve McQueen Estate Auction, it has gone through a very limited number of hands since then, and thankfully it has been kept in the same condition as when McQueen last rode it .

It is now due to go to auction with Bonhams on August 19 in California with a guide price of US$130,000 to US$180,000. If you want to know more or register to bid you can visit the list here.

Men arrested after selling stolen flooring on Facebook

Aug. 6 – Two Morgantown men are charged with receiving or transferring stolen property after allegedly being in possession of approximately $9,000 worth of stolen vinyl flooring.

Monongalia County Sheriff’s Deputies were initially called to a home under construction in a development in the Snake Hill Road/Ed Dunn Road area of Morgantown on July 7 after the contractor noticed the flooring was missing then that he was there that morning.

According to the criminal complaint, the homeowner told deputies she saw the same type of flooring listed on Facebook Marketplace that morning by someone named Marion Efaw.

Deputies searched their system and found Marion Robert Efaw II, 24, of Morgantown, who had a capias warrant for driving while her license was revoked for impaired driving. The address given by Efaw was on Dunn Cemetery Road, which is close to the address from which the soil was stolen.

On July 15, according to the complaint, Efaw contacted the builder of the house via Facebook Messenger and informed him of the location of the soil and that another man named “Raymond Murray was responsible for it”.

Efaw provided an address for Raymond Murray, which law enforcement found to be the same Dunn Cemetery Road address recorded for Efaw. He also said he only took photos of the floor and posted them on Facebook Marketplace for Murray.

The photos allegedly taken by Efaw were inside a storage building with a motorcycle in the background, according to the complaint.

On July 16, deputies searched the premises surrounding Efaw and Murray’s residence and found the building and motorbike matching the photo.

Deputies found “approximately 45 planks of the vinyl flooring under Murray’s bed”, according to the complaint, “and also found Mr. Murray hiding in a closet in an adjacent room”.

Murray told deputies he was hiding in the closet because he had warrants and had purchased the flooring from Efaw and intended to lay it in the hallway of the residence. He admitted that he knew he had been robbed and had been moved from the apartment building to the residence.

Murray was charged with receiving or transferring stolen property on July 16 and was released on $10,000 bond.

According to the complaint, Efaw surrendered on the evening of July 16 and was also charged with receiving or transferring stolen property. He was arraigned on August 4 and bail was set at $50,000. He is being held at the Center-North Regional Prison.

Honda halts sales of 10 models amid ‘uncertain’…

Honda announced that it is temporarily suspending customer orders for ten of its motorcycles to ease pressure on waiting lists, which have built up due to continued shortages of parts using semiconductor materials.

The Japanese firm has released a statement confirming that from August 1st it will not be taking orders for the Rebel 1100, Rebel 500, Rebel 250, CRF250RALLY, CRF250L, Forza, ADV150, Grom, Monkey 125, CT125 and Hunter Cub.

Honda says a number of factors contributed to the decision to suspend sales of certain models, chief among them the expectation of receiving parts using semiconductor materials, an issue that has had many implications for the company. automotive industry over the past 18 months. It has also cut emissions due to the implications of impending regulation of Reiwa, Japan’s version of Euro5 emissions targets.

Driven by the sudden global increase in productivity as nations returned to some normality following the COVID-19 lockdowns, suppliers involved in the production and distribution of these materials – which had declined during COVID-19 – have not been able to keep up with the influx of demand since mid-2021.

With issues passed on to the customer, wait times for a new bike to be delivered are now months away, with some manufacturers warning that an order placed now means you may have to wait until 2023 to receive it .

With no clear end in sight for the supply issues and coupled with the subsequent bottlenecks at maritime marinas, as well as the lingering impact of COVID in Japan in particular, Honda has chosen to take a step that goes beyond- beyond the simple suspension of production.

Honda says it will communicate in due course when the aforementioned models will be available for purchase again.

From a UK perspective, a Honda spokesperson confirmed there was no impact on the availability of the models available here – the Rebel 1100, Rebel 500, CRF250Rally, Forza, Grom and Monkey 125 – and the issues relate to Honda Japan.

“As for Honda motorcycle products, from fall 2021 to present, due to multiple factors such as lockdowns due to novel coronavirus infection overseas, shipping and port congestion worldwide, and semiconductor supply shortages, product and parts arrivals have been delayed,” reads Honda’s statement.

“As logistical delays continue and lengthen, and the outlook for production and shipments from overseas remains uncertain.

“In addition, due to the application of the 2nd year of the Reiwa exhaust regulations to motorcycles for the Japanese domestic market from November 2022, orders for current models may reach the production plan of some models. , we will temporarily stop taking orders.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your orders and the consideration you have for our products. We are sorry.

“Regarding the resumption of orders for the target products, we will inform you again from this site and authorized Honda motorcycle dealers.

“We will continue to do our best to deliver products to our customers as soon as possible, so we appreciate your understanding.”
