Blackburn Funeral Directors are selling a historic hearse

A funeral car that was used to transport more than 1,500 people to their final resting place is for sale.

Blackburn-based Iqbal Funeral and Memorial Services acquired the Mercedes Benz hearse in 2005 and said it was selling it because it was more cost effective to hire vehicles as and when needed.

Rashid Iqbal, 66, who has run the business since its inception in 1989, said: “We have found that limos are much easier to hire and there are also maintenance and parking issues. .

“It’s in good working order and I tend to drive it out on Sundays to make sure it stays that way. I guess some people take their motorbikes out on Sundays – I take a hearse!

“It has only 51,000 miles and is in great condition. It has served us very well during the time we have had it.

“The mileage is so low because we only tend to go from here to the cemetery.

“I guess there are many other uses for cars like this and people can get quite creative. I’ve heard of people converting these vehicles into motorhomes and even delivery vehicles.

“I think it would also be a great addition to someone’s collection. They always go for a decent amount for this type of cars, especially those that have been well maintained.

The Mercedes Benz 2-litre hearse has a selling price of £3,500.

Rashid runs the funeral home, based in St Peter Street with his sons Zubair, 33, and Ali, 27. Rashid established the first official funeral services in the city for the Muslim community.

The company now serves people from all over the Northwest and from all cultures and walks of life. It houses a special memorial exhibit hall at their central location.

The firm was named ‘Memorial Service of the Year 2021/2022 at the Prestige Awards.

Mr. Iqbal added: “The tombstone display room has been a great addition over the years.

“All the work we do is repaired by Ali and his highly trained staff. We manufacture the memorials and engrave them on our premises. We repair the headstones and memorials ourselves.

Iconic Britbike brand BSA, now owned by Mahindra in India, puts the new Gold Star 650 into production

The new Gold Star looks a lot like the old Gold Star, but modern technology means it produces more power.

BSA

Disclosure: The author is a former BSA A50 owner and current Royal Enfield INT650 owner

Britbike brands once considered lost to the decline of the industrial age continue to make a comeback, with Birmingham Small Arms, aka BSA, being the latest resurrection through investment or outright India-based ownership.

With the revival of BSA, owned by Mahindra, Classic Legends, it makes three significant resurrections of the britbike brand across the sub-continent, with TVS reviving Norton and agricorp Eicher Group bringing Royal Enfield into the modern era (and the international markets). Mahindra also operates specialist bicycle manufacturer Jawa and other brands of small displacement motorcycles.

Technically, Royal Enfield was Indian owned and operated for decades after it closed in the UK in the 1970s, but it is on this list for important contextual reasons, the main one being relocation. After some delays, the new BSA has put its first new bike on the market, and it wears the most important of the BSA badges: Gold Star.

For decades, the distinctive BSA badge stood for speed, power and style.

BSA

BSA’s Gold Star has been the gold standard of motorcycling for decades, first hitting the market in 1938 and riding the popularity of BSA – BSA has been the biggest motorcycle brand in the world for some time – for 25 years. It started out as a 350cc single and quickly grew to 500cc. The air-cooled engine could produce power in the mid-30s at the time, and it was eventually joined by a long line of BSA 500 and 650cc twins as the clock started to tick down. This author has owned a BSA A50 500cc twin for several years.

The new Gold Star is still a one-lung single, but it starts in the 650cc class (652cc, to be exact) and while it certainly looks like a classic bike, it has a lot of technology under the skin that should help- the to keep pace with other retro-modern machines in its class, such as Royal Enfield’s popular INT650 and 650 GT twins.

MORE FORBESSimple Pleasures for Hard Times: 2020 Royal Enfield INT650 Motorcycle ReviewBy Bill Robson

The new 650 Gold Star will come standard with electric start (and no backup kickstarter), liquid cooling, digital fuel injection, ABS anti-lock Brembo disc brakes, a five-speed gearbox and a head 4-valve for the deep-breathing single. cylinder. Small LCD panels in the proper “counter-clockwise” analog-style instruments – including a small clock in the headlight shell – relay the fuel level and a few other bits of data.

BSA will retain the “reverse” or counter-clockwise operation of vintage instruments, but digital … [+] data feeds them.

BSA

Despite liquid cooling, which requires a radiator in front of the motor, the motor retains cooling fins to complete the retro look. A flat seat with strap, a shiny 3-gallon tank with the famous BSA badging, spoked wheels and full fenders set the right retro styling notes. The front fork offers no adjustability while riders can increase preload on both rear shocks to haul passengers and gear. Power output from the modern engine is in the mid-range 40 horsepower, which should be enough to haul the 437-pound Gold Star and triple-digit rider (known historically as “the ton”), if not barely.

It looks vintage, but it’s not: the radiator cools engine heat, and the three-gun badge sits under the … [+] spark plug. Fins are there to show off more than just cooling.

BSA

The first Gold Stars will cost £6,500 when they first arrive in the UK, although the company is now based in India, where the bikes will eventually do battle with the well-established Royal Enfield machines, which are icons nuns at the limit with the riders. the. North America will undoubtedly get them at some point, probably around the $7,000 price point. Kawasaki’s W-800 rings in at around $9,000, and Royal Enfield’s 650 twins, which have suddenly caught the attention of American riders, start at around $6,000 if you can find one.

Another iconic British marque being relaunched in India – Norton – is likely to hit the US and international markets soon, although the new Nortons will be larger in displacement, more modern, more luxurious and more expensive than the BSA and Royal Enfield offerings. We hope to get a BSA gold star for review when they become available in the US.

Who’s next? Smaller British brands AJS and Ariel remain in hibernation, waiting in the wings for angel investors to descend from their financial skyscrapers to bring them back to their former glory. Stay tuned.

Amazon bump could be short-lived

It’s been a tough week for several high-profile stocks. (Here’s Zoom and AMC.) Unfortunately, the trend continued on Thursday, this time with indoor bike maker Peloton Interactive. The stock tumbles in premarket trading after the company reported disappointing fourth quarter 2022 results. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Wait, didn’t Peloton’s stock go up yesterday? Yes, he did. In fact, Peloton stock (ticker PTON) rose more than 20% yesterday to $13.48 per share following the announcement that it will start selling its bikes and accessories on Amazon.
  • So what happened now? Despite Peloton shares surging yesterday, at the time of this writing, PTON is down more than 16% to $11.25 per share due to reporting a sixth straight quarter of losses. This time, Peloton lost $1.2 billion in the fourth quarter.
  • How serious are Platoon’s losses? Bad enough, and they widen. Like CNBC reports, a year ago in the same quarter, Peloton lost $1.05 per share, or about $313 million in total. But in the same quarter this year, Peloton lost $3.68 per share, or about $1.24 billion in total.
  • Why does Peloton suffer such losses? For several reasons: reduced consumer spending and rising inflation are just two of them. But the main thing affecting Peloton is the loss of people using its actual services and equipment. The use of the platoon surged at the start of the pandemic when lockdowns were in place. Now, though, why stay indoors to cycle connected when you can go outside and cycle in the real world?
  • What does Peloton say about all this? In a letter to shareholders, Peloton CEO Barry McCarthy said that Peloton is like a freighter: “In high school, I spent three summer months working on a freighter. After midnight on my second trip, I was sleeping when the headquarters alarm woke me up. My reporting station was on deck. Fear is a great motivator. I got dressed while I was running. The 720ft vessel was making 27 knots and the helm was tough. The ship was suddenly healing to starboard and the steel hull was shaking. The captain was trying to turn around, but a ship this big, going this fast, takes miles and miles to change direction. We saved the lives of two men that night. They had been lost at sea, in the Mediterranean, for several days. A happy, happy ending. Peloton is like this freighter. We sounded the alarm for headquarters. Everyone is at their station. We continue to add new inputs to evolve our go-to-market strategy to restore growth. When the ship will respond is the question. Our target is FY23.
  • Did Peloton give any outlook for the 2023 financial year? No.

Motorcycle company organizes cancer awareness weekend near Orwigsburg

A cancer survivor teams up with Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson to raise money for cancer patients in Schuylkill County.

ORWIGSBURG, Pa. — Motorcycles at Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson near Orwigsburg are now decorated with pink ribbons to promote the upcoming Cancer Awareness Weekend.

Employee Donna Dukemen came up with the idea for the benefit 14 years ago. She was working in a hospital at the time and had her own battle with cancer.

“Unfortunately, when I was diagnosed, this program did not exist. I was diagnosed in 2002 with an extremely rare cancer. And most patients do not live beyond three years,” she said. declared.

But it wasn’t Dukemen’s first experience with cancer.

“My father passed away from cancer, my older brother had cancer, my younger brother had cancer. It’s in our family history, so I want to give back to the community and to these patients to make it a little less stressful,” Dukemen added. .

“I lost my mother to esophageal cancer about six years ago. We all know a survivor or a loved one we’ve lost, and I think part of our fundraising efforts and charity is about reaching out to them and touching them in different ways,” said Geoff Bogotuik, chief executive of Schaeffer.

Throughout Friday and Saturday, Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson will raise funds through raffles, food vendors and luminaries in memory of those who have lost their lives to cancer.

Having this every year has allowed them to raise over $45,000 to help the Lehigh Valley – Schuylkill Cancer Program.

“We were able to fund their gentle yoga class so that patients and their caregivers could go for free. And we also started donating money to patients receiving cancer treatments since the pandemic and helping them reduce the cost of gas being so expensive,” Dukemen said.

Cancer Awareness Weekend kicks off this Friday at 5 p.m. at Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson off Route 61 near Orwigsburg.

This Friday, August 26, come and support our BIKE NIGHT – Cancer Awareness Weekend event. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., support the…

Did you know… Lucerna Palace’s first business was a Japanese tea house

Now an entertainment and shopping complex, the first business located in Lucerna Palace was a Japanese tea house. Because of the ‘geisha’ hostesses, the people of Prague believed the place to be a brothel.

During its 125 years of existence, the Lucerna Palace has housed many restaurants and cafes, but one of the first was the Yokohama Japanese Teahouse, established by the Hlouch brothers.

The brothers traveled extensively in Japan and were great admirers of the country. They first presented their teahouse at the 1908 Jubilee Exhibition of the Chamber of Commerce and Commerce at the Prague Exhibition Grounds. Their idea was so popular that they decided to move the tea room to the Lucerna building.

Today, Lucerna Palace is an integral part of the Czech capital. It would probably be hard to find anyone across the country who hasn’t heard of Lucerna. It was built 125 years ago by the grandfather of the first president of the Czech Republic, Václav Havel.

Originally, he planned to build an ice hockey and winter sports stadium, but the land was too small for such a huge project, so he decided to build Lucerna. Construction took place over 14 years between 1907 and 1921, covering the entirety of the First World War.

The concept of the Japanese teahouse caught the attention of promoter Václav Havel, and he offered the Hlouch brothers the space to start their business.

Instead of vices?

In 1909, Czech World magazine featured the teahouse, encouraging Prague residents to descend into the “Lucerne underground”.

“Like a colorful lantern, the colors of the Orient shine,” the magazine continues, “girls in fiery dresses pass by. Would you like a cup of tea tonight? Escape for a moment from the peaceful flow of Czech life?

The “geishas” in the teahouse were Czech girls dressed in Japanese kimonos. The presence of geisha was suspicious to some Prague residents, who imagined the teahouse as some sort of brothel.

screenshot-2022-08-24-at-09-06-43-1024x954-1

The newspapers of the time set the record straight. In 1910, the magazine Mládenec published the following: “An explanation is needed for the article on the Geisha in the last issue. By the word “geisha”, the writer meant a girl destined to serve guests. As is known, in Japan they have their own teahouses instead of our restaurants, and one of them was opened in Prague. The Yokohama Teahouse is a purely Czech establishment and we don’t know anything pejorative about it.

The business proved popular among Prague residents and enjoyed a great boom for several years. However, at the end of the 1920s, the owners encountered financial difficulties and had to close the tea house.

The Yokohama Teahouse has been replaced by the Zimní zahrada restaurant.

Techron Fuel Line Cleaner is for sale on Amazon

Apologies if this story reaches you a little late – too late to avoid that stall you had on your family trip; too late to save you countless dollars because your car wasn’t getting the fuel economy it should be; too late to avoid that four figure repair/maintenance bill you received from your mechanic. But better late than never, huh? In the future, be aware that pouring a bottle of Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner once in a while can make your car’s engine run smoother and more efficient, extending its life and putting money in your pocket.

Excuse the anatomical metaphor, but Techron is like a combination colonic supplement and vitamins for your car’s fuel system. It unclogs injectors, flushes and freshens your carburetor innards, and keeps your intake valves and combustion chambers running smoothly. The results? Improved morning starting, increased engine power and gas mileage, smoother idling and cleaner emissions, to name a few.

It does this by removing and preventing the build-up of dirt and carbon deposits on these essential parts of your car (or boat or motorcycle) engine. Cleaner means a more efficient, smoother, healthier and smarter ride.

Are low gas mileage, slow starting and rough idling keeping you distracted? It’s time to flush the fuel line. (Photo: Amazon)

It’s too good to be true? More than 10,000 five-star Amazon reviews disagree.

“I’ve put it in ALL my vehicles and boats for over 30 years now,” said that engine whisperer. “Generally one treatment every six months or so, more if a lot of use… Improves acceleration, improves idle, quieter engine, etc. It may be my imagination, but I think the engines really love a ‘shot’ of that stuff!!! Seriously, next to frequent synthetic-only oil changes, this is the best thing you can add to your vehicles to keep them ‘happy’!”

This guyis all excited about Techron too: “I’ve got a 2010 Toyota Prius that’s done over 200,000 miles, I can feel the difference in ride for sure; it’s gotten a lot smoother, and even the mileage has gone up by 4-5 miles per gallon. Amazing product, easy to use.”

“I bought this to see if I would get some extra mileage out of my 2021 GMC Canyon,” bound another delighted driver. “I was getting around 18-19 MPG, but now after about two to three weeks of use I’m getting 20-21. No wonder, but for the price that’s a lot.”

If you have Amazon Premier, you will of course benefit from free delivery. Not a member yet? No problem. You can sign up for your 30 day free trial here. (And by the way, those who don’t have one Prime always get free shipping on orders of $25 or more.)

This global brand of luxury supercars has FINALLY arrived in India

British super luxury car brand McLaren has reached Indian shores. Automaker McLaren Automotive has announced its entry into the Indian market. The 130-crore strong country is the automaker’s 41st territory.

The British brand will open its first outlet in Mumbai in October this year, the company said in a statement. McLaren is known for supercars and hypercars and has reached mass followings across the world. The company was launched in 2010 and has an impressive portfolio of GT, supercar, Motorsport and Ultimate models which are sold by over 100 retailers in over 40 markets worldwide.

The automaker will sell its top models, including Everyday McLaren GT and the first-ever Artura high-performance car. On top of that, supercars including the 720S in Coupe and Spider versions, as well as the 765LT Coupe and Spider, will also be on sale at its exclusive Maximum City outlet. An event will also be held in the second half of this year to mark the opening of McLaren Mumbai, the company said.

“It will also provide customers with full support, offering sales, aftersales and service on the full McLaren model range,” the company said.

“India remains an important market where our fans and select clientele can experience the best of McLaren in Mumbai. Looking ahead, we will soon welcome the Artura to India, the all-new high-performance hybrid supercar,” said Paul Harris, Managing Director – APAC and China, McLaren Automotive in a statement.

“We look forward to opening the McLaren Mumbai Retail Experience Center and offering McLaren customers an exceptional opportunity to engage with the brand and become part of the McLaren ownership community,” said Lalit Choudary of McLaren Mumbai.

Hundreds of bikers ride in honor of Bromsgrove business owner

OVER 300 motorcyclists came together to celebrate the life of a ‘generous’ Bromsgrove business owner.

A convoy has been organized in memory of Chris Price, owner of Genesis Motorcycles, who died last month at the age of 58 following an illness.

Riders young and old met outside the motorcycle repair shop on Sanders Road on Thursday August 18 and outside Chris’ house in Catshill to escort him to his final resting place.

The convoy proceeded to the chapel at Redditch Abbey where a funeral service was held.

The Blue Knights Motorcycle Club organized the procession, keeping the riders together and blocking the roads to allow the passage of the large convoy.

Chris’ friend Nick Arkell rode the company owner’s Harley Davidson ‘Fat Boy’ behind the hearse.

As Chris’ coffin was carried into the chapel, more than 300 bikers revved up their engines in tribute.

14513269

The funeral was followed by a burial service at the Abbey Cemetery.

Chris’ wife Maggie thanked funeral directors Thomas Brothers for their “service and compassion”, funeral officiant Peter Billingham and friends for their support.

She added: “A big thank you to Nick who primarily organized the motorbike procession, and to the Blue Knights and associated chapters who helped protect everyone who gave of their time to honor Chris.

“We would also like to thank everyone who has contributed to the British Heart Foundation.

“Chris was a very passionate supporter of BHF and included a generous gift in his legacy.”

14513254Chris Price (far right) with his mother Sheila, sister Sharon and father Mick

She also thanked the staff at Ward 6 at Alexandra Hospital who provided “excellent care” to Chris.

Chris’s sister Sharon described her brother as “a real gentleman, caring, kind, compassionate, generous and funny”.

She said: “I would like to thank all the bikers for coming to the funeral and making it so memorable.”

Chris Price leaves behind his wife Maggie, his mother and father, Sheila and Mick, his sister Sharon and his stepson Anthony.

Genesis Motorcycles mechanic Gary Simcock will continue the activity in honor of Chris.

Kawasaki looking to the future: The brand is committed to launching a new electric range

At the end of 2021, Kawasaki CEO Hiroshi Ito confirmed that 2022 would be the year the brand would enter the electric motorcycle market, and we are now just weeks away from the official launch of two machines that promise to put in place a fight against competition.

By 2021, Ito said, “In 2022, we will show at least three electric vehicles around the world. That’s a promise.” The first of them was somewhat disappointing: the Elektrode, launched on the American market, which was only a battery-powered balance bike for children. The other two seem much more interesting.

Files published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website in the United States show that Kawasaki will have two electric motorcycles in 2023, codenamed “NX011AP” and “NR011AP”.

The designation follows Kawasaki’s usual pattern, with “X” in the second bullet point used to designate a sports bike and “R” for a naked roadster, but the initial “N” is new and stands for “Electric” in the Kawasaki naming protocol. The document, which was quickly updated to remove mention of the new models, showed they each produced 11 kW (15.2 hp), showing that they will be legal in Europe.

That means we can expect two mechanically identical bikes, along the lines of models like the Z125 and Ninja 125, but electric. The model names are not yet known, but Kawasaki had previously registered the Ninja E2 and Ninja E2-R titles.
